This happened when i was in class 10th, almost 6 years from now. we were playing against Apeejay School in the semi finals of the zonals, football. the score was nil-nil a minute prior to half time.
In sheer desperation, the striker of the opposition fired a shot. There were two people in the way of the ball, me and defender. the entire team raised only one voice - manjul is there, no need to clear. but probably the defender was lost. he tried to clear the ball, but unfortunatly, the ball kissed his shin and took a bend which even beckham could not do. we ended up conceeding an own goal.but thankfully, we one the match 5-1.
Later, when asked why he went for that outrageous clearance, he said - yaar, agar paani peena ho to apne floor ke cooler pe jaaunga ya junior wing me. mujhe goal maarne ka man the, socha utni door kaun jaaega, to apna hi maar diya, paas tha.
the reply to this theory of the defender by the coach was even better. he said - acchaa hua tu army me nai gaya. wahhan bolta admi hi to maarne se matlab hai,
