1.1 Submission of Examination Forms
Candidates desiring to appear in the examination with in the permitted span period and otherwise eligible are required
to fill up the prescribed Examination Form.
(i) The Regular Students under the Formal Stream* of education (Category ‘A’*) can collect the Examination
Forms from their respective Colleges/Institutes. Such students are required to deposit the same along with the
prescribed fee at their respective Colleges, within the dates prescribed by their college.
(ii) The Ex-students (Students who have appeared & failed to pass the examination) are required to collect their
examination forms from the concerned section of the Examination Branch and such students will be required to
submit the examination form, duly completed in all respects and countersigned by the Principal of the concerned
college at the concerned examination enquiry window for verification. After verification, the candidates would be
required to deposit the examination fee with University Cashier and the Examination Form with the concerned
window at the Examination Branch .
(iii) The students under Non-Formal Education Stream** (Category-‘B’)** can obtain Examination Forms from
School of Open Learning (SOL)/Non Collegiate Women Education Board (NCWEB) / External Candidate Cell
(ECC).
(iv) The students desirous of improving their performance in any paper as per the University Rules are required to
produce their original statement of marks along with the Examination Form. The rules for the same are given in
the University Calendar available on the University website (www.du.ac.in). The Examination Form can be
deposited on or before the dates prescribed at para 1.1.2.
* Category ‘A’/Formal Stream – Courses are conducted at the Departments and affiliated Colleges.
** Category ‘B’/Non-Formal Stream – Courses are conducted by the School of Open Learning (SOL), Non-
Collegiate Women Education Board (NCWEB) and External Candidates Cell (ECC).
1.2 Span Period
Ordinarily no student will be allowed to appear in the Examinations beyond the prescribed span period as given below :
B.A.Program Part III : Six years after admission to the first year class and five years after admission to
the II Year Class.
B.Com. Part III : Six years after admission to the first year class and five years after admission to
the II Year Class.
B.Sc.Program Part III : Six years after admission to the first year class and five years after admission to
the II Year Class.
B.Sc.(Hons.) Part III : Five years after admission to the first year class and Four years after admission to
the II Year Class.
B.Sc.(Hons.) Home Sc. : Five years after admission to the first year class.
B.Sc. Home Sc. : Six years after admission to the first year class.
B.A.(Hons.) Program & B.Com.(Hons.) : Five years after admission to the first year class and four years after
admission to the II Year Class.
1.3 Last Date for Submission of Examination Forms

In case of Supplementary Examinations, the candidates are allowed to submit their Examination Forms within 15 days
from the publication of the results of the Annual Examinations last held and only those students are allowed to apply for
Supplementary Examinations, who have taken the Annual Examinations. In case the last date happens to be a holiday,
the next working day will automatically be the last date.
Note : The Examination Forms can also be submitted with late fees after the prescribed last dates. However, no
Examination Forms are accepted during the last 15 days before the respective examination.
1.4 Examination Schedule
Tentative schedule for holding various examinations is given below :
ANNUAL EXAMINATIONS :
i) Undergraduate Courses {Formal Stream/Category ‘A’} - First week of April.
ii) Undergraduate Courses{Non Formal Stream/Category ‘B’}
(a) Delhi Centres - Second week of May.
(b) Other than Delhi Centres - Third week of August.
iii) Post Graduate Courses - Last Week of March/First week of April.
SUPLLEMENTARY EXAMINATIONS :

1.5 Date sheets
The Examination Branch issues separate Date sheets for each under graduate courses/ category of students in the
month of February/March each year. Students should see the Date sheets according to her/his programme (Degree),
part (year) of programme, Year of her/his admission to Part I and her/his category, i.e. regular students, Ex-students,
School of Open Learning, Non Collegiate Women’s Education Board and External Candidate Cell.
1.6 Conduct of Examinations
The Examinations will be held on the prescribed date, time and centers. Admission Cards/Tickets will be sent to the
respective Departments/Colleges for onward delivery to the Students of Category ‘A’. Students should check the
venue and time of the examination as per their category/courses, year of admission/part(year) etc. In case of nonreceipt
of Admission Tickets, the candidate should contact the respective college depending upon their stream and
category for issue of duplicate Admission Ticket. Students should strictly follow the guidelines and instructions issued
by the Examination Branch/Examination Centre Incharge and Invigilators. No Student should bring the Mobile Phone
or any other Remote Communication Device to the Examination Hall. Students found using unfair means will be
penalized as per the University Ordinances and Rules.
1.7 Internal Assessment
The scheme for Internal Assessment introduced in 2003 is applicable to the students in the regular stream only, with the
following exclusions :

Internal Assessment marks shall be shown separately in the Marks Sheet issued by the University and these marks
shall be added to the annual/semester examination marks for determining the division of the student. 25% of the
maximum marks in each paper in undergraduate courses shall be assigned for Internal Assessment and the remaining
75% marks for the annual/semester University Examination.
(i)
(a) There shall be 10% weightage assigned to House Examinations to be conducted by each college/department,
for all subjects in Pass course and B.Sc. Program and all papers of the main Subject in Honours courses.
(b) The duration of each paper in the House Examination shall be the same as the duration in the University
Examination. The maximum marks for each paper of the House Examination shall be 100 or the same as the
maximum marks in the corresponding University Examination.
(c) The University reserves the right to scrutinize some or all the scripts of any paper in any course in a College
during the period of retention of papers, which shall be till declaration of results by the University.
(ii)
(a) Each student shall be assessed on the basis of written assignments/tutorials as well as on the basis of project
reports/term papers/seminars. There shall be 10% weightage for such written assignment; and project reports/
presentations/term papers/seminars. Each student shall be given at least one written assignment per paper in
each term, subject to a maximum of 12 written assignments per year for all the papers taken together.
(b) Where the maximum marks in a paper are less than 100, for example 50 marks, the nature of written
assignments/tutorial work shall stand adjusted pari passu.
(iii) There shall be 5% weightage for regularity in attending lectures and tutorials and the credit for regularity in
each paper, based on attendance, shall be as follows:
- More than 67% but less than 70% 1 marks
- 70% or more but less than 75% 2 marks
- 75% or more but less than 80% 3 marks
- 80% or more but less than 85% 4 marks
- 85% and above 5 marks
In the case of students who repeat one or more paper(s), or all papers of Part I or Part II or Part III, the Internal
Assessment marks shall be carried forward from the first attempt.
In the following special cases, in lieu of Internal Assessment, students shall be awarded marks (for the previous years’
papers) in the same proportion as the marks obtained in that paper in the University Examination:
(a) Students who migrate from other Universities to the University of Delhi in the IInd Year;
(b) Students who fail in the Part I Examination of Honours Courses and join Pass/General Courses in the IInd
year; and
(c) Students who transfer from 1st year Pass/General Courses to Honours Courses in the 2nd year.
(d) Students who migrate from non-formal streams in the University of Delhi, (i.e. School of Correspondence
Courses and Continuing Education, Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board and Non-Formal Education
Cell, formerly known as External Candidates Cell) to the Regular stream and vice versa.
In the case of a student who is selected as a member of the N.C.C. to participate in the annual N.C.C. Camps or is
deputed to undertake Civil Defence work and allied duties, or in the case of a student who is enrolled in the National
Service Scheme and is deputed to various public assignments by or with the approval of the Head of the Institution
concerned, or a student who is selected to participate in sports or other activities organized by the Inter-University
Board or in national or international fixtures in games and sports approved by the Vice-Chancellor, or a student who is
required to represent the University at the Inter-University Youth Festival, or a student who is required to participate in
periodical training in the Territorial Army, or a student who is deputed by the College to take part in Inter-College sports,
fixtures, debates, seminars, symposia or social work projects or a student who is required to represent the College
concerned in debates and other extra-curricular activities held in other Universities or such other activities approved by
the Vice-Chancellor, the following provisions will apply:
(i) A student in the categories listed above will have to fulfill the requirement of written assignments and projects/
term papers/seminars/field-work with the flexibility, however, that he/she may, if necessary, be allowed additional
time for submission of written assignments.
(ii) A student in the categories listed above, who is unable to write the House Examination on account of his/her
participation in such aforesaid activities, may be assessed by the College through an alternative mode in lieu
of the House Examination. This may be done only in exceptional circumstances.

1.7 Result
Result and mark sheets will be sent to the respective Departments/Colleges/Institutes/ NCWEB(Teaching Centres)
depending upon the category of the Students.
1.8 Revaluation/Rechecking
Students can apply for revaluation/rechecking of the answer scripts by submitting a request on the prescribed form and
paying the prescribed fee to the Examination Branch within two weeks for Category ‘A’ (three weeks for Category
‘B’) students from the date of declaration of result. Rules of revaluation are given on the University website. In the
case of Professional Courses, revaluation is not permitted and only rechecking of the paper is permitted.
1.9 Promotion Rules
The promotion rules for B.A.(Prog.),/B.Com/B.Sc.(General)/ B.A.(Hons.)/ B.Com.(Hons.)/B.Sc.(Hons.)/
B.A.& B.Sc. Program, B.Com. are available in the University Calendar Volume –II (1989) and amendments issued
thereafter.
