Commerce and Business was the other department, after the science departments, expected to go ahead with the semester system this year. But that does not seem possible after a meeting of the faculty held on Friday.

 

“The faculty resolved to send the draft syllabi back to the colleges on July 1 for a feedback to be supplied to the Department of Commerce by August 15,” said SC Panda, assistant professor at Satyawati College.

 

The new session of the university starts on July 16. This means that the implementation of the semester system will not be possible this year if the changes in the syllabi are to be incorporated. “The syllabi are mismatched. The content, number of lectures and the marks allotted to each subject need to be well matched to ensure that the students do not come under undue stress,” said BL Tayal, assistant professor, Ramjas College, who is a member of a seven-member committee formed to incorporate the observations that will be received from the teachers of different colleges. “We are not against the system as such but against the proposed syllabi,” said Hem Chand Jain, associate professor, Deen Dayal Upadhyay College.

 

The Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental, however, said that he is yet to hear from the department.
