The final list of candidates for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) polls were declared amidst high drama, with as many as six candidates being served showcause notices by the university officials on Thursday. Three candidates each of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) were served showcause notices for allegedly violating the code of conduct.

Presidential candidates Rohit Chahal and Deepak Negi, vice presidential candidate Umesh Tanwar, candidates for the post of DUSU secretary Anuradha and Lalit Kumar and candidate for the post of joint secretary Ashok Khari's candidatures were made provisional as they were allegedly involved in postering, distributing pamphlets and holding rallies without permission.

Said J M Khurana, chief returning officer: "We have found some evidence against these candidates and therefore decided to give provisional candidature. They are being asked to give in writing and appear in person to explain as to why their candidature should not be cancelled by 4pm on Friday. Failure to submit the reply and appear in person will automatically disqualify the candidate. Moreover, if their explanation is not satisfactory, we will cancel their candidature.''

In another development, NSUI candidate for joint secretary Asha Kiran changed colours and joined Indian National Students' Organisation, leaving NSUI without any candidate for the post. Rahul Mathur was later declared NSUI candidate for the post of joint secretary.
