I hate Luv Storys

A romantic love story coming from the house of Dharma Productions (Karan Johar), I have fairly high expections from the music of IHLS. Add to that, it has music by Vishal Shekhar, the expectations only soar.

The album opens with "Jab Mila Tu" sung by Vishal Dadlani. Its a peppy romantic number falling in the category of "Jaane kyon" from Dostana and the two actually sound very similar. Its easy on the ears. Nothing spectacular about this song but should go well with the movie. Its something what call the "Blue Jeans Thing", you gotto have one, and can't really go wrong with it.

Next is "Bin Tere" sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali and Sunidhi Chauhan. Its a soothing track with a sad undertone. Its one of those tracks you want to hear on late night drives. This song will grow on you with time and might be the one that stays with you even after the movie is long gone.

Next is the "I hate luv storys" title, this song picks up the tempo of the album and takes it through the roof. Brilliantly sung by Vishal Dadlani, this song is sure to get your feet moving. Already being used in the movie promos, its creating a great buzz around the movie. For me, as of now, this is the pick of the album. Its energetic, playful and highly infectious.

Then comes "Bahara", a soft number sung by Shreya Ghoshal. Its the kind of romantic number which is almost synonymous with Indian films. Its again easy on the ears but does not have a great recall value. This also suffers from the "Blue Jeans Effect".

After that comes "Sadka Hua" sung by Suraj Jagan and Mahalaxmi Iyer. Its a sad song, Suraj Jagan with his voice really has an impact and so does Mahalaxmi Iyer. Its one of the songs that can really movie when played in the movie.

Then comes, "Bin Tere" (Reprise) sung my Shekhar Ravijiani. His voice reminds of Javed Ali but is still good. It keeps the feel of original "Bin Tere" but is a little toned down as with most reprise versions

After that comes the male version of "Bahara". This one has nothing much to write home about. Feels same as the female version, nothing great but nothing wrong as well.

At last comes, the customary "Bin Tere" remix. Its almost an unnecessary track. Nowdays I feel that remixes have a gotta quota approved for themselves, like 16% of the songs need to be remixes.

So what is the ultimate report card. 3 good songs, 3 ok and one quota song. The soundtrack of IHLS, I'd say is not exemplarary but is good enough keeping the film in mind and will create the right vibes for the movie.
