I really couldn't find a better word to describe the movie, Kites is simply LAME. For people interested in (still) watching the movie, please don't read below as there are some spoilers (as if there is anything to spoil) and also I might forget to mention a few points coz even though its been just one hour since I saw the movie, I almost can't remember anything.
Alright so lets start recollecting, Kites start with Hrithik Roshan (J) being badly injured, the story then mostly moves in flashback (which I feel was absolutely unnecessary, so lets call it UNNECESSARY 1, yeah there are lots to come). Then we see him as a guy who is street smart, willing to do anythihg for money (UNNECESSARY 2 as all the smartness just vanishes). So, to earn some money he teaches dance and there he meets a student (Kangana Ranaut) and his head over heels for J. (UNNECESSARY 3, they could have easily done without this track). Anyways, J fall for the rich girl for money. Goes to her home, meets her brother, and his fiancee, falls in love with her and they run way.
Hold on, so doesn't it sound like MATCH POINT. Well yeah actually, just take away the chemistry between the characters.
And then on the run, they try to recreate BUNTY- BABLI (again a failed attempt) and then some sob sob romantic drama and the movie ends. The narrative is not consistent at all, the first half tries to be serious romantic, whereas the second half comic-action and the movie falls flat in both the attempts.
I had to leave the 'UNNECESSARY' thing coz it could have gone on and on, and the descriptive story track coz its really boring. So you get the point, Kites is boring, its got no story, bad screenplay, equally bad dialogues (Barbara Mori keeps on saying, "Hum Bachche Paida Karenge"). There seems to be very little chemistry between the leads, you don't root for them, you don't want them to be together, The only good thing about the movie is its cinematography and the background score to some extent which too seems to be misplaced at times.
I know this review is all over the place and is actually LAME, but then, thats how the movie is. |
