We take this opportunity to welcome you to the beginning of the academic year 2010-11.
Admission Process for various Under-Graduate Courses for the Academic Session 2010-11 will commence from May 28, 2010.
 
Under-Graduate Courses are available as
 
• Full time courses in various constituent and affiliated Colleges of the University;
• Some of these courses are also available in Non-formal stream in:

Application for admission to Under-Graduate Courses in various Constituent & Affiliated Colleges of the University:
Application for admission to the Colleges can be submitted from May 28, 2010. For this purpose the University has set up following sixteen Admission Information Centres located in different parts of the city for sale and receipt of Common Pre-Admission Forms and Information Bulletin for 2010-11.

Common Pre-admission Forms along with the Information Bulletin 2010-11 will be available from May 28 to June 11, 2010. The Bulletin of Information will also be available in Hindi. A candidate shall indicate on a single form the courses and colleges where he/she is seeking admission. The completed form is to be submitted at any of the above designated Centres of the University irrespective of the centre from where he/she has obtained the form. The Information Bulletin will contain the following information:
(i) Specimen Copy of the Common Pre-Admission Form
(ii) Information relating to availability of Courses and number of Seats in the Colleges
(iii) Last year’s cut-off percentage in different Colleges & different courses
(iv) General Instructions about filling the form
(v) Map indicating the location of Colleges, Metro Feeder Bus Routes & some Important DTC Routes and Metro Routes 
(vi) List of courses for which the Common Pre-Admission Form is not applicable
 
The University will compile and scan all data collected from Pre-Admission Form. The University shall provide to Colleges, the lists of candidates seeking admission College specific & Course specific. 
 
The first admission list will be announced by the Colleges on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 10.00 a.m.
 
Students if they wish to, can also obtain separate individual College Prospectus and College Application Forms directly from the College concerned.
 
Other Initiatives taken by DSW Office:
 
a) Delhi University has introduced tele-counseling and established DU Help Line. The Telephone Nos. are 27662507, 27662508 (for North
Campus) and 24119832, 24114634 (for South Campus)
b) From this year, the University has introduced “Web Chat” with experts on DU website (www.du.ac.in).
c) For SC/ST students separate pamphlets in Hindi and English have been published and will be distributed among the SC/ST students.
d) Special arrangements of counseling for SC/ST have been made. On every Open Day from May 15 to May 23, 2010 a multimedia presentation will be presented at the designated places in the afternoon. In addition to this, the same presentation will be made during registration days at the Arts Faculty, North Campus and in Room No. 116, South Campus from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. each day.
 
Centralized Registration for Music & Foreign Language Courses
• Candidates opting for honours courses in Music should register themselves at the Faculty of Music.
• Candidates seeking admission to B.A (Hons.) in Germanic/Italian/French/Hispanic Studies should register themselves at the Department of Germanic & Romance Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Delhi.
 
Number of seats available and Admission Prospects:
The University offers more than 5000 seats in professional courses. During the last three years the approximate number of seats available for various courses other than professional courses are as follows:
 
2008 – 09 : 42,000
2009 – 10 : 49,000
2010 - 11 : 54,000
 
In the last three years, almost all students with 1st division were admitted to colleges. The cut-off percentage for 2009-10 indicates that students with IInd division, too, are able to get admission to some courses. Candidates are advised to keep the cut-off-percentage of the last Academic Year in mind while making a selection of college and course. Cut-off-percentage for last year’s admission to various courses in different Colleges is enclosed. These are only indicative and the cut-off for this year will be notified later.
 
Students who do not wish to seek admission to full time courses in colleges, or are unable to secure admission have the choice to enroll themselves in the “Non-Formal Stream of Education”. Information Bulletin and Application Forms for the Non-Formal Stream are available as given below:

CENTRALIZED REGISTRATION FOR ALLOCATION OF SEATS FOR SPECIAL CATEGORIES OF STUDENTS IN REGULAR COLLEGES
 
Arrangement for Scheduled Castes/Tribes Candidates
 
The University will hold Counseling Sessions for the SC/ST Candidates from May 28 to June 11, 2010 in the Arts Faculty Building, North Campus, University of Delhi and in Room No. 116, Arts Faculty, South Campus of the University. The Counseling will be for a session of one hour. The timings of the counseling will be from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. (three sessions of one hour each). Complete information relating to availability of seats, medium of instruction, combination of subjects, courses available, and guidance on central registration for admissions will be provided to the SC/ST candidates seeking admission to various Under-Graduate Courses of the University. Candidates of SC/ST Categories should get themselves registered at any one of the following four Registration Centres:
1.Arts Faculty, North Campus, University of Delhi,
2.Office of the Deputy Dean Students Welfare, South Campus
3.Rajdhani College, Raja Garden
4.Shyam Lal College, Shahdara
 
I.C.R. Forms have been specially designed by the University for the candidates belonging to SC/ST category to make it student friendly and to ensure error free data collection.
The registration and submission of application forms will be held from May 28 to June 11, 2010 between 10.00 A.M. – 1.00 P.M. A panel of teachers act as counselors to advise candidates of the SC/ST categories to help them to choose courses. Candidates have to present the SC/ST certificates in their own name at the time of registration. The Special Cell of the University will process all applications and seats will be allotted to candidates on the basis of merit-cum-preference. The candidates will be issued provisional admission slips in the name of Colleges where they will be admitted.
 
Candidates will be at liberty to change their option form, if they wish, till June 11, 2010 i.e. the last date of registration.
 
Reservation for the candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (Non-creamy layer)
The process in brief is as under:
i) Total number of seats in each course is increased by 54% (base year 2006-2007)
ii) SC and ST quota will be calculated on the basis of the enhanced number of seats.
iii) The unreserved seats will remain unchanged.
iv) The seats that remain after deducting the seats at (ii) & (iii) from (i) are reserved for the OBC Category
 
At the time of granting admission to an OBC candidate, the College will ensure that
1. The certificate is in the name of the candidate
2. The caste is included in the Central List for OBCs
3. The certificate mentions non-creamy layer status of the candidate
4. The Colleges will simultaneously bring out a separate cut off for the OBC Category
5. The difference between the two cut-offs shall not be more than 10%.
 
Children/widows/wives of men of armed forces killed or disabled in action
 
5% seats are reserved for this category of applicants.
Centralized registration is done at the Academic Branch, Room No. 220, New Administrative Block, University of Delhi (for Arts & Commerce Courses)
and in the Faculty of Science (for Science courses) for the Children or Widows of Personnel of officers of Armed Forces, including Paramilitary Personnel, killed or disabled in action or on duty. They are given 5 percent relaxation in marks to determine their eligibility to the course concerned.
 
Foreign Students:
 
Up to 5% seats in first year of each course in Colleges will be made available for Foreign Students. All foreign students seeking admission to various under-graduate courses are required to verify eligibility criteria and to apply to the Deputy Dean (Foreign Students), (e-mail : dydean_fs@du.ac.in), C/o Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi.
 
Sports Quota/Extra Curricular Activities:
 
Colleges of the University offer admission to students having proficiency in Sports and Extra Curricular Activities. Candidates seeking admission under this category should apply directly to the college concerned. 
 
Physically Challenged Candidates :
 
In consonance with the provisions of ‘Person with Disability Act’ enacted by Parliament, the University provides reservation of 3% seats in all Courses for the Physically Challenged candidates, reservation is available to candidates having a minimum of 40% disability. Physically Challenged candidates are advised to register themselves at the office of the Dean, Students’ Welfare (North Campus) from May 28 to June 11, 2010 from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. (excluding Sundays). The application form should be accompanied by a recent certificate of physical disability issued by a duly notified Medical Board of a District/Government Hospital set up for examining the physically challenged candidates under the provisions of the “Persons with Disability (equal opportunities, protection of rights and full participation) Act 1995”. The certificate should indicate the extent of percentage of the physical disability and it should bear the photograph of the candidate concerned. It should be counter signed by one of the doctors constituting the Medical Board issuing the Certificate of Disability. After registration at the DSW Office, Candidates are required to appear before the Medical Board, WUS Health Centre, University of Delhi. Application Forms for the Physically Challenged candidates are available free of cost at the Office of the Dean, Students’ Welfare (North Campus). A team of committed counselors is available at the DSW Office to help and counsel physically challenged students.
 
GRIEVANCE COMMITTEES
 
Grievance Committees have been set up separately for general category students and reserved category students; one for the Main Campus and one for
the South Campus. Besides, every college is expected to have its own Grievance Committee. If a candidate is not satisfied, he/she should first approach the
College Grievance Committee. If his/her grievance is not redressed, he/she should file a written complaint with the Central Grievance Committee, Main or
South Campus depending upon the location of the College.

THINGS TO REMEMBER
 
    • The common pre-admission forms will be available at 16 designated centres for Rs 50. They are not available online or cannot be ordered or submitted by post 
    • There is no minimum age bar for admission to the first year of undergraduate courses except in some professional courses 
    • All colleges except St Stephen's and Jesus & Mary College accept the common pre-admission form 
    • For admission through ECA and sports quota, candidates have to apply on separate forms of individual colleges 
    • Sports trials will be conducted centrally by the university and not individual colleges this time. There will be 75% weightage for certificates and the rest 25% for performance in the trial 
    • ECA trials will be conducted by individual colleges 
    • Different forms will also be required to apply for CATE for admission in BA (honours) English. The forms will be available in 17 colleges where admission is sought 
    • Candidates have to contact individual colleges for applying to professional courses such as journalism, BMMMC, biomedical sciences, home science 
    • For hostel facilities, contact the college. Admission in a college does not ensure admission in the hostel. Allocation of rooms is based on merit and is allowed only for outstation candidates 
    • Hostels in most North Campus colleges will be closed for renovation till October. So the candidates will have to arrange for lodging elsewhere 
    • SC/ST candidates require two self-attested photocopies of their caste certificate, a self-attested photocopy and certificate of classes X and XII (provisional) and two photographs
