Dr. Mamkoottam is Professor - Human Resource Management & Industrial Relations, Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) DU.
Dr. Mamkoottam has held other positions including: Independent Director on the Board of Companies; India-EEC Fellow, ESADE, Barcelona; External Examiner–Faculty of Law and Management, University of Mauritius; Member-Governing Bodies of DU Colleges and Chairman/ Provost/ Member of University Hostels; Director, Centre for Applied Behavioural Sciences & Action Research; Board Member of NGOs & several academic Journals, Research & Consulting Faculty- Shri Ram Centre for Industrial Relations & Human Resources; UGC Research Associate, D.U. ; Lecturer, Dept. of Sociology, D.U. ; UGC Senior Research Fellow, D.U.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Dr. Mamkoottam has a Master's degree in Sociology from the Delhi School of Economics. The University of Delhi awarded him doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in 1977 for his thesis based on a study of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations in the Tata Steel Company, Jamshedpur.
RESEARCH AND TEACHING
Dr. Mamkoottam has done extensive research and completed several projects in the areas of Worker Trade Unionism, Managerial Unionism, Ethno-agriculture, New Technology & Human Resource Management, in India, South Asia & in Europe. He has been teaching courses in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, and Manpower Development for Technological Change at the Faculty of Management Studies since 1985. Earlier he taught at the Department of Sociology, DSE, at the Sri Ram Centre for Industrial Relations & Human Resources, and was India-EEC Fellow (1989-90) at ESADE Business School, Barcelona.
TRAINING AND CONSULTANCY
Dr. Mamkoottam has undertaken consulting and training for the International Labour Organisation (ILO); Nepal Industrial Relations Forum; Bangladesh Employers' Association; Skills Development Fund Sri Lanka; Planning Commission-GOI; the Fifth Pay Commission-GOI; and for several organisations in the Public Sector, Private Sector and Multinationals.
PUBLICATIONS AND CONFERENCES
Dr. Mamkoottam’s publications include Labour and Change (Sage, 2003); Trade Unionism: Myth & Reality (Oxford University Press, 1982); Managerial Trade Unionism (ICSSR, 1990); Productivity Linked Wages in South Asia (ILO, 1998) and several research papers / articles in professional journals and edited books published from India and abroad.
